Does an escape to Maui in the middle of January seem just like you what you need? Would it help if you could also earn CLE credits, network with other trial attorneys and learn new techniques? AAJ wants to help you make it happen!!!!

Five new lawyers will receive FREE registration to the AAJ 2010 Winter Convention to be held in Maui for those who may not be able to afford the full registration or those who have never considered attending a convention and need that extra push to make it happen.

The dates of the meeting are January 30 – February 3, 2010 in Maui, HI and more information on the convention can be found at http://www.justicewinterconvention.org/ The opportunity is open to all NLD members in good standing.

If you are interested, please complete the application at http://www.justicewinterconvention.org/scholarship_survey.cfm explaining your interest and why you feel you should be awarded the complimentary registration. APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY NOVEMBER 20, 2009. Once your application is received, it will be reviewed by AAJ staff and NLD leadership. Recipients will be announced no later than December 1, 2009.

Through a very generous offer, Mitchell Garrett of the Garrett Law Office, P.C. is offering to cover the airfare for those five recipients.

Fun things to do in Maui!

Aloha! My name is Mike Dolan and I work for a company called MC&A in Hawaii. We have been asked to partner with the American Association of Justice Winter Convention to provide access to some great activities, tours and trips on Maui and within the Hawaiian Islands.

For starters, you folks will be in Maui during the peak of our Whale Watching Season. Each year thousands of humpback whales migrate from Alaska to Hawaii to give birth to their young. The channel between Molokai, Lanai and Maui is one of the most populated zones where they give birth. You are sure to see many whales breaching from the shore but no experience is quite like seeing them from 150 feet away on a catamaran. If watersports aren't your thing then allow us to suggest many other activities including ATVs, Ziplines, Horseback riding, Rainforest hikes, and many others.

We will be publishing a website shortly where you can see all that is available on "The Magic Isle".

Housing Update

Online Housing is now open at http://www.justicewinterconvention.org/hotel_reservations_and_travel.cfm

Also, please note the following:

Education programs and exhibits will take place in both the Hyatt and the Westin; with committee, litigation groups, and section meetings being held at the Westin. Free Shuttles will run daily between hotels on a continuous basis while programs are taking place. A full list of meetings and locations will be posted to this website mid-August.
Shuttles and services will only be provided for these two hotels.

If you stay at a non-official hotel or residence, AAJ can not arrange for transportation or services. Help AAJ produce the most-successful convention and save costs by staying at an official AAJ convention hotel.

Aloha!

I just returned from a site visit to Maui for the 2010 Winter Convention – and there is so much in store for you! Both the Hyatt and the Westin hotels are absolutely beautiful, the grounds are award winning, and the local area is full of fun activities and restaurants to explore.

In the coming weeks I’ll post some tips and restaurant suggestions to get you started. We also are working on putting together some fantastic tour/excursion options for AAJ attendees and hopefully a few special events that will get everyone excited.
